Caramel Apple Crisp

Caramel Apple Crisp

If you are looking for more than baking a cake or cookies for dessert tonight, remember you can take fruit and turn it into a sweet, delicious crisp!  Here’s how I took the Granny Smith Apples sitting on my counter and turned it into a dessert the kids won’t soon forget.  (PS don’t forget to serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!)

Ingredients:

8 Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/4″ wedges

2 Tbsp of fresh squeezed lemon juice

1/2 cup of brown sugar

2 Tbsp of cold, diced butter

2 tsp of cinammon

4 Tbsp of corn starch

——————————————————————————————–

1 1/2 cups of flour

1 cup of brown sugar

1 stick of cold butter, diced

1 Tbsp of cinnamon

1/2 cup of rolled oats

1 tsp of kosher salt

_______________________________________________________

1/2 cup of Kraft Carmel squares, unwrapped and cut into quarters

1 tsp of kosher salt

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 9″ x 11″ casserole dish.

In one large bowl, combine apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and cornstarch.  Mix until combined.  Set aside.

In a medium size bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, oats and salt.  With clean hands, knead mixture for 2 minutes or until the butter is combined with other ingredients and appears to look like small crumbles.

Place the apple mixture in the bottom of the casserole dish.  Sprinkle with cut up caramels and kosher salt.  Top with second bowl of crumble.

Bake 45 min.  Serve in individual bowls with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
